Bulletproof Citizens

The problem arises in light of a Virginia Tech style massacre, always, and they all seem to be trying to top the one before them, Cho is just the most recent in line and has succeeded in setting that record. I am sure that Satan has a record and “Wall of Fame” of school shootings and Virginia Tech is at the top with a picture of Cho right next to it. Snazzy introduction done now lets get right to the meat of things.
First off guns are weapons of death, and that is there only purpose. Guns are offensive tools. Now with that settled, we move on to bigger things, if guns are offensive would an attacker and defender both need offence? Should we protect ourselves with something that can only bring harm in an attempt to stop the one attacking from brining harm? I say no, I say that we should defend ourselves with defensive mechanisms, and tools meant to protect, not tools meant to do harm. Because if I get shot and I shooter my attacker I am no better than he is. I tried to do harm to him because he caused me harm.
We as Americans should all be armed with bulletproof vests. A bulletproof vest is designed to be a defensive tool, something that can protect us in the event of an attacker. Think of this, how many victims of Virginia Tech would have been saved if they were wearing a bulletproof vest? A good deal of them is my answer; the attacker has the satisfaction of shooting someone but all that is left on the person’s body would be a welt or bruise. Having a gun would have done nothing against him because he was wearing something bulletproof or so early reports said.
But then we would all live in fear, but whose to say that we don’t now, but I think that being protected gives some a sense of well, protection. The government tries to protect the citizens by imposing laws and restrictions upon them. All that does is keep people down and restricts their freedom as Americans. Are we all just supposed to sit in fear as more and more shootings happen? The number of shootings is on the rise, there have been a reported 150 school shootings since Columbine, some too minor to care about nationally. But when a big one hits, it hits hard.
We all are now just desensitized to it all, the Virginia Tech massacre went from being a big headline taking up a generous portion of the screen on MSN.com to not even being there. Sure there are still news stories about it, but just one week after 32 people were shot to death, including the gunman, America has moved on, it no longer matters to us. The remnants that are left of it all will be forgotten as to why they are there. In fact in should not take a death for people to realize things need to change.
As the sphere of influence of the Virginia Tech shooting slowly diminishes Americans will move on back into their daily lives and April 16th will become just another anniversary, just like Columbine or the Oklahoma City bombing to name the two that will also be “remembered” that week as well.
